Half Moon Pose: Step-by-Step Instructions

Half Moon Pose: Step-by-Step Instructions

 http://www.yogajournal.com/pose/half-moon-pose/

Perform Utthita Trikonasana to the right side, with your left hand resting on the left hip. Inhale, bend your right knee, and slide your left foot about 6 to 12 inches forward along the floor. At the same time, reach your right hand forward, beyond the little-toe side of the right foot, at least 12 inches.
Pose of the Week: Half Moon Pose
Exhale, press your right hand and right heel firmly into the floor, and straighten your right leg, simultaneously lifting the left leg parallel (or a little above parallel) to the floor. Extend actively through the left heel to keep the raised leg strong. Be careful not to lock (and so hyperextend) the standing knee: make sure the kneecap is aligned straight forward and isn’t turned inward.
Rotate your upper torso to the left, but keep the left hip moving slightly forward. Most beginners should keep the left hand on the left hip and the head in a neutral position, gazing forward.

Bear the body’s weight mostly on the standing leg. Press the lower hand lightly to the floor, using it to intelligently regulate your balance. Lift the inner ankle of the standing foot strongly upward, as if drawing energy from the floor into the standing groin. Press the sacrum and scapulas firmly against the back torso, and lengthen the coccyx toward the raised heel.

Migraines,

BUT:

 http://www.nyheadache.com/blog/butterbur-we-no-longer-recommend-it/

(Good Blog:  http://www.nyheadache.com/blog/ )

Butterbur – we no longer recommend it

We no longer recommend butterbur to our patients. We participated in a large (245 patients) placebo-controlled trial of butterbur, which showed that 150 mg of butterbur is effective in the prevention of migraine headaches when compared to placebo. The results were published in the leading neurological journal – Neurology and the American Academy of Neurology recently endorsed the use of butterbur for the prevention of migraine headaches. Because butterbur is highly toxic to the liver and can cause cancer we were very happy to have a highly purified product manufactured in Germany (sold as Petadolex and other brands), where it had to pass strict safety studies. However, Germany is no longer allowing butterbur to be sold there because the manufacturer changed its purification process and did not repeat all of the required safety studies. Butterbur made in Germany and in the US is still sold in the US, but our FDA does not regulate herbal products and does not require the extensive safety tests that are required in Germany. This is why we no longer recommend butterbur for our patients.

(Vitamin D3, D) Vitamins, Supplements, Immune System

Vitamin D, Vitamin D3; about the most important thing to fight sickness, colds, etc. with:

Researchers have pointed out that increasing levels of vitamin D3 among the general population could prevent chronic diseases that claim nearly one million lives throughout the world each year. Incidence of several types of cancer could also be slashed in half.

Vitamin D also fights infections, including colds and the flu, as it regulates the expression of genes that influence your immune system to attack and destroy bacteria and viruses.
In this interview, one of the leading vitamin D researchers,

 http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/12/22/dr-holick-vitamin-d-benefits.aspx

Vitamin D seems to be in fish oil but perhaps more in cod liver oil:  http://www.jabfm.org/content/18/5/445.1.full

1. It contains high amounts of EPA and DHA, both crucial Omega-3 fatty acids. DHA is particularly needed for proper brain and nervous system function.
2. High levels of a natural form of vitamin A, a fat-soluble vitamin. In Weston Price’s studies, he discovered that primitive or traditional societies consumed at least 10 times the amount of both vitamin A and D that our modernized society consumes.
 3. Plentiful vitamin D, a nutrient that most North Americans are deficient in, particularly those who live in cloudier climates with less sunshine (I say as I stare out my window, 6 months into the West Coast grey and rainy season). Recent research has been strongly connecting vitamin D with the immune system and autoimmune diseases. It is also important for bone strength (it ensures correct levels of calcium in the blood), for blood sugar balance, for fertility, for cancer prevention and more.

2. Squats:

The squat is a compound, full-body exercise that works more than one muscle group. This powerful exercise helps tone your glutes, strengthen your body and burn a lot of calories. To boost your calorie expenditure and raise your heart rate, you can try to do jump squats. Or stay in a squat hold with dumbbells in the hands to increase the resistance as well as feel the burn. Doing squats regularly is one of the best ways to transform your body as well as improve your physical health. If you sit all day at work or at home, you are at higher risk of serious disease. Why not do several squats whilst waiting for your dinner to cook, the kettle to boil, or your PC to boot up? Sometimes multitasking is a great thing!

One of the easiest ways to tighten your abs it to hold it for about 10-15 seconds, release and then relax. Do this easy tightening exercise at least 4 times a day and you will notice amazing results. The great news is that you can do this at work or when you are in line at the grocery store.

What Does a Gyro Ball Exerciser Do?

What Does a Gyro Ball Exerciser Do?
The most basic way to use the GyroBall is to get it spinning and continuing to spin it for 30 to 60 seconds. Complete the exercise with both hands and by rotating the rotor in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions. Target your finger muscles by holding the ball in your fingers while the rotor spins. To work your biceps, hold the spinning powerball while your arm is down by your side and your elbow is bent to 90 degrees. Extend your elbow to lower your arm by your side and then bend your elbow again. Work your shoulders by lifting your straight arm up in front of you or out to your side until your arm is parallel to the floor, and then lower it back down to your side.

Sugar Headaches;

The sugars you should be looking out for are glucose, dextrose and sucrose, and highly refined sugars found in candy and packaged baked goods. These are rapidly used up and make your body break down stored sugar in the liver, leading to sugar highs and lows that make you fidgety, irritable, inattentive and even sleepy– all symptoms of what I was experiencing. Best sugars for the brain are complex carbs like starches and fructose that take time to break down and provide a long release of energy. Just remember, oatmeal, noodles and rice are better than cereals, biscuits and chanachur.
